I run for fun. It is a great exercise to do alone, or with my kids in the stroller, and it gets me out of the house. I like to run with friends because we have some talking time while we exercise. What could be better?
I am training for two half marathons this summer, but when I say "training" I mean preparing so I can go the distance at my own slow pace. Jacob, on the other hand is training in the true sense of the word, with a time goal and all the work that goes with it.

My first half marathon is three weeks from today, so today I ran 11 miles. I was surprised at how well I felt, and how consistent I was able to keep my pace. I felt like my run today went better than my 9 miler last week. The difficult part of today was the late start. We didn't leave the house until almost 11:00, and I knew the run would take about 2 hours. Luckily there was some cloud cover so it wasn't as hot as it could have been, but today would have been a great day to run a few hours earlier.
I drank some chia seeds soaked in coconut water on the way to my starting point. Chia seeds are great energy boosters, and coconut water is nature's sports drink.
I was glad that Jacob mapped out a course near parks with restrooms and port-a-potties along the way. I definitely wouldn't have lasted without a couple of pit stops along the way.
Jacob ran with me for part of the way today, which was much slower for him, but nice for me to have someone to run with, and someone cheering me on toward the end of the run. He drove the car to a couple of places and came to the trail to run with me for a couple of minutes at a time.
I used my saying from last week to keep me going, and found a new one too: "I can do this. I am strong. I can do this all day long." and "Stay loose. Stay light. Run fast. Run light." When I started feeling tired and wanted to stop I would repeat these sayings to stay motivated to continue.
I feel like you would imagine after a long run, tired and a little stiff, but I am proud of myself for not giving up. I can do hard things!
